Hot take: Our book club all loved 'The Midnight Library' but I thought it was way too predictable

Last month my group picked it and everyone was crying about how deep it was. I got about 60 pages in and called every plot beat before it happened. The whole 'learn from alternate lives' thing felt like a Hallmark movie written by a philosophy undergrad. Did anyone else find the message way too simple or is it just me?

Crushed that book in one night shift break. Three cups of hospital coffee and a vending machine sandwich. Got to the part where she's a glaciologist and I laughed out loud. Like yeah sure lady, your perfect life is freezing in Antarctica. My coworker kept shushing me. The whole thing read like those motivational posters in the break room. "Every choice matters." No kidding. Give me something I haven't heard before.

Skip the book club meeting next month and pick something that actually challenges you. @grant_palmer nailed it with the motivational poster comparison - that book is literally just a 'live laugh love' sign in hardcover. Grab a used copy of 'The Vegetarian' by Han Kang instead. Way more unpredictable and actually has some teeth to it. Your group might hate it at first but that's usually a good sign.
