Found out from a footnote that the first edition of 'Dune' had a massive printing error in chapter 8

I was reading an old library copy and the librarian pointed to a handwritten correction pasted inside the cover, saying the publisher had to recall 2000 copies in 1965 because a whole paragraph was duplicated, which honestly explains why my dad's vintage copy always confused me.

That footnote says they only caught it after 500 copies shipped.

Well that's a quality control win for the ages. Only 500 lucky customers get the special misprint edition. Bet those will be worth something on eBay someday. Classic case of catching the horse after it's left the barn, got a coffee, and moved to a new city.

The "special misprint edition" line is funny, but I see it as a pretty normal printing error. Most books have a few typos in the first run. Catching it at 500 copies is actually not that bad. I've seen way bigger runs get shipped with whole missing pages. It's just a footnote, not a chapter printed upside down.
