Found my old book club notes from 3 years ago and laughed at how wrong I was

I was cleaning out my truck last week and found a notebook under the seat with my notes from a debate we had about The Road. I had written down this whole argument about the symbolism of the father's decision making. Then I remembered the guy across from me, Dave, just said "you're overthinking it, he's just a dad trying to survive" and I got so defensive. But looking back at those notes now, he was totally right and I was just trying to sound smart. Has anyone else gone back to old book club notes and cringed at their own takes?

Oh man, same thing happened to me with a different book. I kept notes on some literary novel and wrote pages about the color symbolism and the author's hidden meaning about capitalism. Went back last month and realized I was just projecting my college English class onto a pretty straightforward story about family drama. The worst part is I even argued with people who said the same thing Dave said to you. I was so smug about it too. Now I just feel bad for everyone who had to sit through me going on about motifs that were probably just the author picking a color that looked good on the page.

Dude @jordan653 my buddy once argued that a blue car in a movie was about depression when the director just liked the color.
