Finally caught the mistake in our club's discussion guide for chapter 8
I noticed the guide kept saying the main character's motive was jealousy, but after rereading pages 142-148 three times, it's clearly about fear of being abandoned. Has anyone else found the official discussion questions totally miss the point on certain chapters?

Wait, you're saying it's about abandonment? I always thought jealousy too but now I have to reread that section.

You bring up a good point about the reread. But I think people miss that the real theme here isn't jealousy or abandonment. It's about control. Look at the scene where he rearranges her bookshelf without asking. That's not jealousy. That's him trying to own her space. Even the way he times their walks to avoid certain neighbors. He's mapping out her life like it's a route he planned. The whole thing reads like a guy who can't stand not being in charge of every detail.
