Walked past a boiler I welded 5 years ago and barely recognized it
Went back to a job site in Gary last week to do a repair on a different unit and saw this old horizontal return tubular boiler I worked on back in 2019. The welds I did on the tube sheets looked like crap compared to what I can do now, all lumpy and uneven. My foreman at the time told me I was gonna blow it up if I kept laying beads like that. Has anyone else gone back to old work and felt embarrassed about what you used to think was good?

Oh man, "you're gonna blow it up" is exactly the kind of thing my old foreman used to say, he'd stand there shaking his head while I ground down my beads for the fourth time. I went back to a steam drum I patched up back in 2016 and the whole thing looked like a six-year-old drew on it with a crayon, all wavy and uneven like I'd been welding with a hangover. It's wild how much your eye changes over the years, you start seeing things you missed back then and wonder how the whole place didn't fall down around you.

Yeah that "you're gonna blow it up" line takes me back, my old man used to say the same thing about my driving.
