Took me 3 tries to pick between stick and flux core for this boiler job

Was welding up some patch panels on a 40-year-old boiler last week and kept switching between stick and flux core every pass. Finally stuck with flux core because the wind kept kicking up in that old plant and I was chasing porosity with the stick every time. Any of you guys run into a job that made you totally swap your usual process mid-stream?

Wind's a real headache. Glad you found what worked.

Been through three different masts in six years before I found one that actually stays put. The wind around here shifts direction twice a day and it's brutal on hardware. Finally switched to a heavy duty stainless setup with a tension kit and it's been solid for eight months now. Sometimes you just have to accept that the cheap stuff isn't worth the headache.
