That time I called BS on a $15 tube of boiler gasket sealant and ate my words two weeks later

I was working on a flange joint on a 150 PSI steam line outside Toledo and the old timer on site swore by this cheap Permatex stuff for high temp jobs. After I fought with it for half a day and the thing held pressure like a champ with zero weeps, I had to admit I was completely wrong. Anyone else got a product they were dead sure was snake oil but it actually pulled through on a rough job?

So what was the exact Permatex stuff? I've had mixed luck with their high temp gasket makers on steam lines, but I'm curious if there's a specific one that actually holds up at 150 PSI long term. I'm always looking for something that doesn't turn into a crusty mess after a few months.
