That one foreman who measured everything with his boot

Had a foreman on a job in Gary who refused to touch a tape measure. He'd just step off lengths in his steel toes and yell numbers at us. We missed a beam seat by 4 inches and he blamed the concrete crew.

Did the boot method ever actually work out or was it always a gamble like that? I've seen guys swear by it but 4 inches is a rough miss.

Honestly think it worked out for some people, but the ones it worked for didn't measure wrong to begin with. You gotta be super precise about where you're placing the boot, and most people mess that up and then blame the method instead of their own bad measuring. Saw a guy on another forum who swore by it, but he was doing it on a completely different type of flooring and his car sat way lower than stock, so the comparison was pointless from the start. Four inches is a lot, but it could also be that the guy who missed by that much just didn't account for weight in the trunk or something. Method's not the problem, people just need to pay attention to what they're doing.
