That older guy who told me I was burning my rods wrong
I got into a habit of just cranking the amps up high to get through rods faster, figured it was fine. Then this old timer named Pete watched me on a job in Gary, Indiana last month and said I was wasting metal and making weak welds. He showed me how dropping the amps down by 30% and taking a slower pace actually gave me way better penetration and less spatter. I still feel dumb for ignoring the basics for so long. Has anyone else had a veteran call them out on something you thought you had figured out?

Ngl, turning the amps down that much isn't always the answer if you're running thicker base metal. Rod choice and joint prep matter way more than just speed.

Yeah, you're totally right about that, I've been there too.
