That $200 auto-darkening hood I swore was a gimmick saved my neck after 4 straight hours of welding yesterday.
I was dead set on my passive lens until my partner dared me to try his Lincoln Viking and I didn't once have to flip it up for chipping slag, so has anyone else had a tool they trashed at first then couldn't live without?

Wait, hold up. FOUR straight hours of welding? That is insane. My back hurts just reading that, let alone my neck. I can barely last an hour without feeling like a pretzel, so four hours with a passive lens where you're flipping it up and down constantly sounds like pure torture.
I always thought auto-darkening hoods were for rich guys who wanted to look cool in their garage, not for real work. But after you saying it saved your neck, I'm starting to wonder if I've been missing out. The chipping slag part is huge too. I usually have to plan my chip breaks like a lunch schedule.
Okay, you convinced me. I'm actually going to look into one this weekend. My chiropractor bill is getting out of hand.
