I finally noticed the difference in my old shop's floor plates

Walked into a boiler room I started at back in 2011 yesterday, and the floor plates near the feedwater pump had this smooth, polished look compared to the rough matte spots I remember. Back then, we ground and welded every little gap whenever we did tube repairs. Over 4 years, that constant traffic and spark scatter basically wore down the top layer. The current crew just paints over rust, and you can see the plates pitting already. Anyone else track how their own maintenance habits change a room's wear pattern that slow?
