I finally changed my mind about welding caps for daily use

For years I thought welding caps were just for show, something old timers wore to look the part. I always used a standard hard hat with a leather hood, figured that was good enough. Then I spent a 12 hour shift in Houston last July with sweat dripping in my eyes every 3 minutes, couldn't see my puddle worth a damn. A buddy handed me a clean cap and told me to try it, so I did. The brim kept the sweat off my lenses, and I was way less irritated by the end of the day. Now I'm wondering if I was just stubborn or if there's a real advantage to the cotton vs the synthetic ones, what do you guys think?

Have you tried the ones with the built-in sweatband?

Man I felt that Houston July comment deep in my bones. I used to be one of those guys that thought welding caps were just for looking cool in photos, figured any rag would do the job. Then I spent a shift with a regular bandana that kept slipping down over my eyes every time I bent over. Made me look like a fool trying to adjust it every thirty seconds while holding a hot stinger. Finally broke down and bought a proper cap with a stiff brim and now I cant go back. Funny how we fight the simple stuff for years just to save five bucks and a little pride.
