Hit 10,000 hours of welding time last month and it hit me different

I was just cleaning up my timesheet for the big refinery shutdown in Gary and realized I've burned through ten grand worth of rods over the years. Has anyone else had that moment where a number just makes you stop and think about all the mornings you've showed up?

My buddy actually tried to tell me this would happen when I hit 5,000 and I laughed it off. But damn, when I finally did 10,000 hours myself it really did feel different. Something about that number just makes you realize how much time you've actually spent under the hood.

Yeah, that "under the hood" part really hit me too. I remember crossing 8,000 hours and thinking "okay, I'm getting there," but 10,000 was like a wall. For me it wasn't just the time, it was how I started catching details I'd missed for years. Like, I finally noticed a weird harmonic in my engine at a certain RPM that I'd just ignored before. It's the kind of thing you can't put a number on until you've actually been there.
