Found out my old Miller welder from 1985 still beats my new one on thick steel plate

I was looking through the specs on a forum last night and discovered the duty cycle on that old transformer machine is nearly double what my fancy inverter unit puts out above 3/8 inch, so what are you all running for heavy wall pipe these days?

Buddy's old Miller burns through 1/2 inch plate like butter.

Didn't that old Miller have a habit of tripping breakers on anything over 3/8?
