Walked into a game store in Boise that still had shrink-wrapped copies of Titan from 1982
I was in Boise for a roof estimate last month and ducked into this dusty game store near the old train depot. The owner had a glass case with Avalon Hill games from the 80s, including a mint copy of Titan for $200. I remember playing that game on a friend's shag carpet back in '85, and it took us 5 hours to finish one match. The store smelled like old paper and bad decisions, but it brought back all those Saturdays where we argued over rule clarifications. I almost bought it, but who am I kidding, my group barely gets through a 90 minute game now. Anyone else find old shelf copies that hit different than the new stuff?

I think you're a little off on that price, @tylerw72. The copy I saw was marked $200, not $300, and that was for a sealed one. $200 for a game that old and still in the wrap is actually not bad if you're the type to frame it on a wall or something. But I agree with your point on the silica packets, I've lost two game boxes to moisture just from keeping them in a basement closet.

300 bucks for a game you might play once every five years seems like a waste of money lol. Nostalgia's a hell of a drug but that's just collecting dust with extra steps. I still have my original copy of Titan in the basement somewhere and the box is held together with duct tape and prayers. New stuff plays way faster and you can actually get people to finish a game before they pass out.

Man I felt this one... I actually did the math once and figured out my old copy of Titan cost me about 4 bucks per play over the last 15 years. That 300 price tag stings upfront but if you really think youll get 75 games out of it over the next couple decades its not that bad. I keep my old games in a plastic bin with silica packets to stop the cardboard from turning into mush. The real trick is to store the pieces in separate bags inside the box so you dont have to dig through a pile of chits every time you want to play. But yeah I get it, if youve only got one group that meets twice a year those big box games are a tough sell.
