PSA: Catan is not a good intro game, and the guy at my Tuesday meetup in Fresno finally proved it to me
He runs the newbie table and said 4 of his last 6 first-timers spent the whole game confused about why the robber kept landing on them. I get the nostalgia, but why do we keep handing this to people as their first board game when Kingdomino exists?
Honestly the "why the robber kept landing on them" thing is so real. My buddy Dave brought Catan to a cabin trip with his wife's family last summer, all non-gamers, and by hour two his mother in law was convinced he was cheating because every 7 roll came up on her hexes. It was just bad luck but she was genuinely mad at him the rest of the weekend. That is the whole problem with Catan as a first game, people can't tell the difference between a bad game and a bad dice night yet. Kingdomino you can teach in 3 minutes and nobody leaves feeling like the game personally hates them.
