My group's 'no phones at the table' rule versus just letting it slide

We tried a strict no phones policy for our Gloomhaven campaign in Chicago, and it cut our setup and play time by almost an hour each session. But my buddy says it feels too rigid and kills the casual vibe. Which side are you on, total ban or relaxed approach?
