My group tried a round robin tournament at game night and it backfired hard
We had 8 people last Saturday so I thought a round robin for 7 Wonders would keep everyone engaged. Instead, two guys finished their games in 15 minutes and spent the next 45 minutes scrolling phones while the rest of us slogged through. Has anyone else found a better way to handle large player counts without the down time?

Had 10 people once for Catan and we split into two tables of 5 with a mini winner bracket at the end, cut the downtime way down.

Hold on a sec, Catan only goes up to 6 players with expansions. You can't really play with 5 at a table unless you're using some house rules or a different version. Tbh, splitting into two tables is the only way to handle that many people, but you'd need two copies of the game for the bracket to work right. Ngl, I've done something similar with 8 people and it gets messy if everyone doesn't know the rules. Just gotta make sure each table has an even setup or someone's gonna be salty.
