My gaming group's strategy shifted completely after one guy left for college

We had this core group of five playing heavy euros every Friday for like three years. One dude, Tim, moved to Colorado State last August and our whole dynamic flipped. Without his aggressive table talk and engine building focus, the rest of us started exploring cooperative and story driven games. Suddenly we're playing stuff like The Crew and Sleeping Gods instead of waving at spreadsheets. Has someone else's group changed hard after losing a key player? How long did it take you to find a new groove?

Honestly used to think losing one player wouldn't matter much, but watching your group pivot like that makes me rethink it. Sometimes one person's style really does set the whole mood, and when they go, it opens space for stuff you didn't know you wanted to try. Sounds like a solid change, even if it took a kick to get there.

I mean, it's just one guy leaving. Groups change all the time, people move, get new jobs, have kids. You don't need to make it sound like your whole social fabric unraveled. You said you played heavy euros for three years, so clearly you all liked that style at some point. Maybe you just got bored with the same old thing and Tim leaving gave you an excuse to try something new. Give it six months, somebody will get tired of Sleeping Gods and you'll be back to something with resource cubes and a 30-page rulebook.
