I had it drilled into me by my old meetup crew in Grand Rapids that you always start new folks on light stuff, or they bounce off hard. So when my brother in law showed up to our Saturday game of Wingspan, I tried to steer him to Sushi Go first and he waved me off. He picked up the whole thing in about 40 minutes and ended up beating me 78 to 71, and honestly the reason was just that the game is well laid out, not because he's some genius. So now I'm questioning if that rule is really about the game or about the people teaching it. Does anyone else have a story where a newbie skipped the easy stuff and did great?
