I thought solo board gaming was just sad. Then I tried it for 6 months.
Three years ago I would have laughed if you told me I'd spend Friday nights playing a board game by myself at my kitchen table in Columbus. I thought solo gaming was something people did because nobody would play with them. Then my buddy moved to Seattle and my game group fell apart, and I had a shelf of stuff just sitting there. I tried Mage Knight solo in January, mostly out of boredom, and about two hours in I forgot I was alone. The puzzle was just as good as playing with people, maybe better since I could take my time and not worry about someone rushing their turn. I've now logged close to 40 solo plays across 5 different games and I honestly look forward to it. The weird part is I still love game night, but solo scratches a totally different itch that I didn't know I had. Anybody here run into the same thing, or am I just fooling myself?
