Back in 2019 my game group played 6 hour sessions every week, now we can barely get 2 hours in
Eight of us used to meet at a house in Ferndale every Tuesday. Sessions ran from 6pm to midnight, sometimes later if a campaign hit a good part. Then two guys had kids, one moved to Ohio for work, and the host sold his place. Now we play online every other Thursday for maybe 90 minutes before somebody has to log off. The games changed too. We went from heavy campaign stuff to party games you can teach in 5 minutes. Feels like the hobby got more convenient but lost something in the trade. Did your group shrink down like this, and did you find a way to keep the longer games going?
Question whether losing a few hours of tabletop really counts as a loss worth mourning. People move, have kids, sell houses, that's just life and it was always going to happen. My old crew of five dropped to three and yeah we switched to shorter games, but we still hang out and that matters more than rolling dice for six hours straight. Ferndale to Ohio is a real distance, not some tragedy about the hobby changing. Sounds less like the game got worse and more like your Tuesday nights just grew up.
