Man, I bought a cheap tool once and it snapped on the second use.

The paint sprayer I bought for $18 at a closeout store blew apart on the third use, sent paint all over my neighbor's white fence. I still hear about it two years later from @schmidt.grant whenever we're grilling out back. The thing wasn't even worth trying to fix, the plastic housing just shattered into five pieces. I've learned my lesson now, I only buy mid-range stuff from brands I've actually heard of before. Cheap tools are just gambling, sometimes you win but mostly you lose your time and money.

I mean, I read something about how cheap tools are basically disposable these days, they're made with such thin plastic that they barely last one job. Idk maybe it's just me but I feel like the whole "buy once cry once" thing actually makes sense after stories like this. Sounds like you got off easy compared to having a compressor blow up in your face or something worse.
