Vent: Why does everyone leave their tongs in the slack tub?

I used to do it too. Figured it was no big deal. Then I grabbed a pair after a buddy left them submerged for 10 minutes. The handles were ice cold and the grip slipped right out of my hand. Nearly dropped a 20-pound billet on my foot. Now I yank them out immediately. I shout at people in the shop now too. So why do so many folks think it's fine to soak their tongs?

Try keeping a dry rag on the horn to grab them with.

My 5th grade teacher called them "sticky icky fingers" and I still think about that every time I hit one with a spatula. The rag trick works okay but you gotta make sure it's bone dry or you're just making steamed hornet. I usually keep an old dish towel clipped to my apron just for this purpose. Still rather grab the can of Raid though if I'm being honest.

Yeah I was totally that guy who left tongs in the slack tub all the time. Then @nora10's dry rag trick happened by accident when I grabbed the horn of my anvil and realized a dry cloth makes all the difference. Now I'm religious about pulling them out after each heat.
