Took me 6 tries to get a solid forge weld on a cable Damascus billet
I spent 4 hours on Saturday fighting with an old piece of wire rope, flux flying everywhere and the weld just peeling apart. Turned out I wasn't getting it hot enough in the back of the forge - once I cranked the burner and let it soak for a full 3 minutes, it stuck on the first try. Anyone else have a 'dumb simple' fix that cost them half a day to figure out?

Learned that lesson when my car wouldn't start and the battery terminals were just dirty.

Disagree with this one honestly. But that's just me. Battery terminals being dirty is such an easy fix that it barely counts as a lesson. Give me a real electrical gremlin like a failing alternator or a dead starter motor any day. That'll humble you way more than wiping some crud off a connection with a wire brush.

Honestly used to think it was always the battery. That changed my mind quick.
