That old timer at the shop who warned me about gas forge safety

Last month at a hammer-in in Ohio, a guy named Ed pulled me aside and said 'son, you're standing too close to that regulator when you light it.' He showed me a scar on his arm from a flashback that blew a regulator 6 years ago. Anyone else ever had a close call with a gas forge?

Ed was right. Stay clear of that regulator when lighting.

I saw this thing online a few weeks ago from a guy named Mike who works on furnaces. He said the same thing about those regulators on gas logs, that even a tiny spark can set them off if you're not careful. I read somewhere that a guy lost his eyebrows because he ignored that warning and lit the pilot with his face too close. It's honestly scary how fast things can go wrong with gas stuff like that. Better to use one of those long lighters or a wand thing to keep your hand far away. No reason to risk it just to save a few seconds.
