Still not sold on propane forges after fighting mine for 6 weeks

I spent 6 weeks messing with a propane forge I built from a kit and it just never got hot enough to weld. Everyone online swears by gas but my setup kept losing heat through the door gap no matter how I adjusted it. Finally switched back to my old coal forge in the shed and had a billet welded in 20 minutes. Has anyone else had more luck with coal than gas for forge welding?

Wait, six weeks and you never got it hot enough to weld? That's crazy, I thought those kits were supposed to be pretty dialed in. What kind of burner and insulation were you using? I had a buddy who fought with a gas forge for months until he realized his regulator was only putting out 5 psi instead of the 15 he needed, and after that it worked like a dream.

Wait, 5 psi? That's like trying to boil water with a candle. I ran my first forge on a weed burner setup and still got it hot enough to burn off my eyebrows. Your buddy must have been pulling his hair out for nothing.
