Shoutout to the guy who told me to try coke forge welding
Been fighting with forge welding for months, couldn't get a solid joint to save my life. Stumbled into an old timer at the Billings hammer-in who said to pile on some coke instead of coal for the weld heat. Tried it with a simple wrought iron billet last weekend and it stuck first try, no joke. Any of you guys run coke for welding or just me?

Funny how the old timers always seem to have one weird trick that actually works. Guess all that time spent messing with anthracite was just me being stubborn. Coke really does burn hot enough to make the metal feel like butter. Might have to raid the local smithy's scrap pile for a bag of the stuff.

Hey @hugo_jones2, you really think coke is that much better? I've been burning anthracite for years and never had trouble getting metal hot enough for forging. Coke burns hotter for sure, but it also throws off a lot more smoke and smell, which can be a pain in a small shop. Plus, anthracite is way easier to find around here without having to dig through a smithy's scrap pile. What kind of work are you doing that needs that extra heat?
