Picked up a used post vise at a farm auction in Ohio last weekend for $40
I went to this little farm auction near Columbus just to look around, and there was this old post vise buried under a pile of rusty harrow discs. The screw moved smooth, and the mounting bracket was still solid, so I threw in a bid and got it for forty bucks. Got it home, cleaned off the crud with a wire brush, and it works perfect for holding my work while I'm hammering on it. Anyone else find good deals on old tools at random auctions?

I mean, I don't know about that. I see folks pay forty bucks for a rusty piece of iron and think they got a steal, but a new vise from the hardware store is like sixty and it actually has a warranty. Maybe it's just me but old tools are overrated when new ones work fine out of the box.

Ah man that's awesome! It reminds me of this time I found an old hand-cranked drill at a junk shop in Indiana. Thing was covered in cobwebs and I think the guy just wanted it gone. Paid five bucks, took it apart, greased it up, and it still works like a charm. Funny how the best stuff is always hiding under a pile of junk.
