My new propane forge cracked after just six months of weekend use
I got a two-burner Devil's Forge last fall, and the ceramic wool lining split right down the middle last weekend. I was working on a set of fireplace tools, nothing crazy, just normal forging heat. Everyone online says these things last years, but mine didn't even make it through a single season of hobby work. I patched it with some refractory cement for now, but it's a real pain. Has anyone else had a major failure with a relatively new forge lining?

Well, @jade221, my own forge lining quit faster than my last New Year's resolution.

Used to think those linings were bulletproof until mine cracked in under a year. I mean, same deal, just normal hobby stuff. Makes you wonder about the quality control sometimes.

Patch that crack with kaowool rigidizer before you do anything else. That ceramic wool really needs the extra coating to hold up to the heat cycling. I'd also look at how you're supporting the forge when it's hot, sometimes the weight distribution can stress the lining.
