Hot take: a farrier in Amarillo told me my hammer was too heavy and now every heat feels different
I argued with him for 20 minutes about it, then tried his 2 lb cross peen for one shoe and the scale just fell off clean. Anybody else get knocked off their high horse by a guy half their size?
A 2 lb cross peen is pretty standard for most shoeing work though. Been running a 3 lb for years and never had a shoe scale off just from hammer weight. The real thing that matters is how you swing it, not how heavy it is. That farrier probably just has a style that works for him, doesn't mean it works for everyone. If you were fighting the weight that much maybe your grip or stance was off, not the hammer.
