Bought a $90 'vintage' anvil at a yard sale in Tulsa and it's basically a paperweight

Turns out it's cast iron with a hollow base, so anything heavier than light tapping just dents the face. Anyone know a decent way to tell real wrought steel from cast iron before I drop cash on the next one?
