Am I the only one who had a piece of 1095 spring back and crack during a quench in my garage last Tuesday?

I was tempering a small knife blade in my garage last Tuesday when the 1095 steel, which I'd heated to a bright orange, made a loud ping and developed a hairline crack right down the middle after the oil quench, so I had to grind it down and start over, which made me wonder if anyone else has a better quench oil they recommend for avoiding that kind of shock?

Heard 1095 hates fast quenches, try heating your oil first.

Yeah that ping is the worst sound. I started pre-heating my canola oil to like 130F and it made a huge difference for 1095, way less shock.
