Went from hate-watching The Bear to finishing season 2 in one sitting, what happened to me
I tried The Bear back in March and quit after 3 episodes because the kitchen yelling stressed me out. Picked it back up last Friday after a buddy in Austin kept bugging me about episode 6, and bam, I watched the rest of season 1 and all of season 2 by Sunday night. Turns out the yelling stops being noise and starts being the whole point once you care about these people. What show did you bail on early and then end up binging later?
I read a piece on Vulture a while back about how The Bear was basically designed to make you feel trapped in that kitchen those first few episodes. The writer said the stress you feel early on is on purpose so the calm moments hit way harder later. That tracks with your experience. I did the same thing with Breaking Bad, quit around episode 4 the first time because I couldn't stand Walter being such a sad sack, then came back a year later and crushed all five seasons in like two weeks. Funny how a show can feel like punishment until suddenly it clicks and you can't stop.
