The guy who said skip the intro on The Expanse was dead wrong
My coworker Dave kept telling me to skip the intro on The Expanse because it was boring and too long. I listened to him for like 7 episodes. Then my internet lagged one time and I caught part of the intro text explaining the factions. Rewound it, watched the whole thing, and suddenly the politics made way more sense. That cold open with the ship and the asteroid belt map actually sets up half the season. Dave is a hack. He also skips credits on every show. Has anyone else found a show where the intro is actually important?

Honestly I used to skip it too, thought it was just a long title sequence. Then I actually paid attention one time and realized it spells out the whole political setup with Earth, Mars, and the Belt. Makes way more sense after that. Now I watch it every time.

The intro is definitely helpful for new viewers, but I think people overstate how essential it is. After the first episode or two, the show does plenty of heavy lifting explaining the factions through dialogue and scenes. The intro text spells it out, sure, but you can also just pick it up naturally from context. Skipping it might slow you down a little, but calling a coworker a hack for skipping credits feels like a stretch. Different strokes for different folks, right? What shows have intros that are actually impossible to understand without?
