Pro tip: watching on 1.5x speed vs normal - which side are you on?

I got into a debate with my friend last week about whether watching shows at 1.5x speed ruins them or saves time. For me, it worked great on shows like The Office where I already know the plot, but I tried it on a new mystery series and missed a key clue in episode 3. My friend swears normal speed is the only way to catch all the acting and pacing. Anyone else tried speeding things up or do you think it's a crime against storytelling?

Wait, am I the only one who accidentally watched half of season two on 3x speed and thought the characters just had really bad anxiety? But honestly, I get what you mean about missing stuff. I tried 1.5x on a slow burn drama and ended up thinking the big twist was just a sneeze. I think it works for shows with lots of filler or stuff you've seen before, like I do it for reality TV where nobody talks fast anyway. But for anything with real acting or plot twists, you're basically speedrunning the emotional payoff. My brain just can't keep up with the facial expressions when they're blinking at double time.

I read this article once that said watching stuff on 2x speed actually changes how your brain processes emotion in scenes, like you miss the micro-expressions actors use to sell the moment. Made me think about how I binged a suspense show on fast forward and the big reveal felt flat, probably because I skipped all the buildup. So for me, slower is better if I actually want to feel the story, but I do 1.25x for boring dialogue or long monologues.
