Just realized I've been skipping over these hidden gem shows

So my streaming service had a glitch last Thursday where the recommended page wouldn't load at all. I was stuck scrolling through the A-Z list instead and accidentally clicked on some show called "Patriot" that I never would have picked. Ended up watching four episodes in a row that night! The algorithm always pushes the same big budget stuff but there's a whole world of smaller series buried in those alphabetical menus. Now I'm wondering what else I've been missing because the app just shows me the same top 10 over and over. Has anyone else found a show by accident this way that turned out to be amazing?

That's exactly how I found "The Good Place" lmao. My remote was broken and I couldn't scroll past the first few rows, so I just clicked on a random show with a stupid title. Ended up crying at the finale a few weeks later. The algorithm really does trap us in this little bubble of the same 20 shows over and over again. There's probably like a hundred decent shows hiding in the Z section right now that nobody talks about because they didn't get the big push.

Right, 47 episodes of "Terriers" man. Found it because the app crashed and left me on the "T" section. Blew my mind how good that show was, a perfect little detective story nobody watched. It got canceled after one season but it's still better than 90% of the garbage Netflix throws in my face. The algorithm is a damn liar, it wants you to watch the safe stuff with known actors. You gotta dig through the junk to find the real gold.
