I finally quit a show 20 minutes in and I'm done feeling bad about it

My buddy told me I had to push through the first four episodes of some slow burn drama because "it gets so good," and I made it 20 minutes before turning it off. Life's too short to sit through a 6 hour audition for a show that might pay off. What's your cutoff before you bail on something a friend swears by?
