A guy at the laundromat in Tulsa saw my phone screen and said the first season of anything is just the trailer test, and he is right
So I am sitting there waiting on a dryer (my building has 2 machines for 40 units, do the math) and I am 4 episodes into this show everyone keeps telling me about. Guy next to me, folding a massive pile of towels, glances over and goes "season one is just the trailer test, if they get a season two that is when the real show starts." I laughed it off, but then I actually thought about it. Every show I have ever binged in one shot, the first handful of episodes are always a little stiff. Different lighting, actors still figuring out the character, whole vibe feels like a pilot that got picked up late. Then season two hits and it is like a switch flips. The Wire, The Office, Parks and Rec, even Breaking Bad (fight me, season one is short and slow). I used to bail on shows after 3 episodes, now I push to at least the end of season one or into season two before I quit. Saved me from missing some stuff I now love. But here is the thing, how long is too long to wait? If a show needs 2 full seasons to get good, is that a show worth watching or am I just stubborn? Curious if you all have a rule for when you drop something, or if you ride it out forever.
Watched the first two seasons of some sci-fi thing because a buddy swore it got amazing, then he quit watching it himself by season three. Makes you wonder if the "just wait" advice is even coming from someone who followed through, right?
