Warning: I stopped chaining my bike to the rack itself and started locking it to the rack through the frame and back wheel
For about 2 years I locked just the front wheel to the rack because it was quick and easy, and that habit cost me a $180 wheel when someone unbolted it on a Tuesday afternoon outside the library on 5th Street. Cables are cheap and light but I lost a whole bike once when a guy just cut through one in maybe 10 seconds. So I switched to a U-lock through the frame and rear wheel, with a cable looping the front wheel to the U-lock, and started using the actual rack legs instead of the top bar. The difference is that now even if someone pops the quick release the frame is still stuck to something solid. Anyone got a setup that keeps the front wheel from walking off without hauling two heavy locks around?
