Spent 4 hours chasing a ghost shimmy on a 2019 Trek Domane, turned out to be the headset
Customer brought in this Domane complaining about a shimmy above 25 mph that only showed up on descents. I checked wheel dish, spoke tension, tire seating, even swapped the front wheel off my own bike, nothing. After 4 hours and two test rides down the same hill off Riverside Drive, I finally pulled the fork and found the lower headset bearing was shot, sealed cartridge had basically turned to grit. New bearing, 20 minutes, done. Has anyone else had a sealed headset fail this early, or did I just miss the obvious first?
