Shoutout to the guy who showed me the trick with a zip tie for stuck seatposts

I was working on a 90s steel frame in the shop, and the seatpost was totally seized, wouldn't budge with a normal clamp. Another mechanic walked over, cut a zip tie, slid it down the tube to break the corrosion seal, and it popped right out. What's your go-to method for a really stuck post?

That zip tie trick only works on light surface corrosion.

Tried that zip tie thing on my rusty bike chain last year and it was totally useless. Had to soak the whole thing in vinegar overnight, which actually worked. @the_sarah is right, these hacks often fix problems nobody really has. For real rust you need a real chemical solution, not a piece of plastic. That trick is basically just for shiny metal that got a little dirty.
