Overhead a shop mechanic say you should grease pedal threads, I always thought that was a no-go

oh man yeah I'm with you on that one. I had a buddy who greased his pedal threads and a year later he was fighting to get the darn things off. In my experience that's just asking for trouble down the road.

Exactly, and it's one of those things where even dry lube can gum up over time if you don't clean the threads first. I've seen guys use anti-seize compound too, which is basically the same gamble unless you're riding in a total salt bath every day. Honestly, a dab of grease on the saddle rails is fine, but pedals and bottom bracket threads? No thanks.
