Old timer at the co-op swore by wax chains. I laughed at him then.

Guy named Pete at the Bici Centro co-op in Santa Barbara told me to try waxing my chain back in 2018. I told him it was a waste of time for a commuter bike. Ran a standard wet lube for 3 more years. Chain and cassette wore out every 6 months. Finally tried wax last January after destroying a 105 groupset. 12 months later and the drivetrain still measures like new. My chain just stays clean. Has anyone else had a shop veteran steer them right on something they totally dismissed?

Wax is overhyped. My wet lube lasts a full season just fine.

Give wet lube a try in dry summer dust though and you'll be scrubbing black gunk off your drivetrain every weekend. Wax handles that grit way better without turning into paste. I just do a quick hot wax dip every few months and my chain looks new.
