Caught a cracked chainstay on a customer's bike before it snapped yesterday

It was a 2018 Trek Marlin and I only noticed because the paint was bulging near the weld. Has anyone else had those model years develop cracks back there?

Found a similar crack on a 2019 model last month hiding under a muddy frame.

Hiding under a muddy frame? So you had to clean off the mud to even see it. That's kinda the whole thing with mud though right? If I have to scrub down my bike just to find every tiny hairline crack I'm going to be out here with a toothbrush after every ride.
