Rant: My new burr grinder made a mess of my counter last Sunday
I got a new burr grinder last week and thought I had it dialed in right. But when I went to grind my beans Sunday morning, coffee grounds flew everywhere like a tiny explosion. Turns out the static build-up was way worse than my old blade grinder. Anyone else deal with static mess and found a fix that actually works?

...actually I gotta push back on this a little. Static mess is real for sure, but I think people blame the grinder way too fast when it's usually the humidity or lack of it in your kitchen. If you run a wet finger through your beans or spritz them with a tiny bit of water before grinding, that kills almost all the static and keeps everything in the catch cup. I used to hate my baratza for the same reason until I tried this and now it barely even sticks to the lid. Might not fix every grinder out there but it's worth trying before you blame the gear.

The wet finger trick works but you need to be careful. A lot of people use way too much water and end up with clumpy grounds that don't extract evenly. Just barely damp is enough, not dripping wet. Also worth noting that some bean varieties are oilier than others and that plays a bigger role than people realize. Fresh roasted light roasts barely have any static compared to dark roasts that have been sitting around for weeks.
