My grinder was the reason my pour overs tasted like dirt for a whole year

I kept blaming my beans or my kettle temp, but last Tuesday I ran a friend's old hand grinder against my electric one at the exact same setting. Turns out my burrs were so dull they were basically smashing the beans into uneven powder. I switched to his grinder and my morning cup went from bitter mud to sweet and clear in one brew. I feel dumb for not checking the burrs sooner, especially since I had them for 18 months without a clean or swap. Anyone else ever chase a bad brew problem only to find the gear itself was the culprit?

Took me a month to realize my old scale was adding like 3 grams every time, so my ratio was always off. Felt like a detective finally cracking a case when I weighed it against a kitchen scale, lol.
