My Baratza grinder died mid pour over on Saturday, right before guests showed up
Was brewing for 6 people at my place in Austin on Saturday morning and my 4 year old grinder just quit with beans still in the hopper. I panicked and used the old blade grinder I keep in a cabinet, which gave me super uneven grounds and the coffee tasted terrible. Anyone got a grinder that has held up past 5 years without needing a new motor or burr set?
Little correction here, a 4 year old grinder quitting is not really a sign that all grinders are junk. Most Baratza models are actually built so you can swap parts yourself, and the motor or burr set dying after 4 years of daily use is pretty normal wear and tear. The good news is you can usually grab a replacement burr ring or motor from their site for way less than a new grinder. Mine is a Virtuoso that's been going about 7 years now with one burr swap in there, so the fix might be simpler than you think.
