My $40 bag of single origin beans changed everything in 3 days

Grabbed a bag from a local roaster near Portland last week. First morning, tasted flat and boring. Second day, I dialed in my grind finer on the Baratza. Third cup hit me with bright berry notes I never got before. Had I been choking my old grocery store beans with the wrong grind this whole time? Anyone else find a huge difference just by adjusting your grind size for different beans?

...and I'm not convinced it's that deep. You're telling me three days and a grind adjustment turned you into a coffee connoisseur? Sounds more like you finally read the instructions on the bag. I've had plenty of bags from roasters around here and half the time it's just marketing hype about "berry notes" when really it's just decent coffee that doesn't taste like burned dirt. The Baratza upgrade probably did more heavy lifting than the beans themselves. But hey, if it makes you feel like you're not choking on old Folgers, more power to you. Just don't expect me to shell out forty bucks for the privilege of playing barista.

Yeah same thing happened to me, grinding finer for lighter roasts totally woke up my morning cup.
