I weighed my coffee beans for a month and my $12 scale beat my old scoop every single time
So I kept seeing people say to weigh your beans instead of using a scoop, and I finally tried it with a cheap $12 kitchen scale I got at Target in Fort Worth. The thing is, I was always getting sour or bitter cups and had no idea why, because my scoop was giving me anywhere from 12 to 20 grams depending on how heaped it was. Once I locked in 18 grams of coffee to 300 grams of water, my pour overs stopped tasting like a guessing game. I know it sounds obvious to some of you, but I honestly thought my grinder was the problem and almost dropped $180 on a new one. Turns out my grind was fine, I just had no clue how much coffee was actually going in. My ratio was all over the place for like two years and I never noticed because some days it tasted great and some days it was garbage. Has anyone else had a scale fix a problem they blamed on their gear? Curious if anyone still scoops and swears by it.
